At New York’s fashion week Isaac Mizrahi debuted the Fall 2009 collection he designed for Liz Claiborne. The showing was held at his Manhattan studio. He’s been named the creative director of the company. Check out their site for his twist on things over at Liz Claiborne. I, for one, like what I see. During fashion week, he did double duty, displaying the Liz Claiborne collection but also displaying his newest collection. Isaac got his line’s inspiration from Africa and the show was held at the New York Public Library’s Astor Hall. I saw a wedding done there, that place is majestic! Anywho, how does one get through the week with two very different collection hitting the runway? Apparently, there was a lot of chocolate involved! It seems the uber- designer had been snacking on Champagne Truffles and chocolate almond bark. Anybody else craving chocolate now?

Musically Fashionable

From boy-bander to solo star to fashion mover and shaker, Justin Timberlake is doing big things. He and childhood friend Trace Ayala started their line William Rast a few years ago and this week they debuts at New York Fashion Week. That's huge! Timberlake says, "this season we're inspired by Barack Obama. I am inspired where we can go with the nation. That's why we picked the theme of New America for the show."

Diva on a Budget

How do you know the economy is bad? When Kimora, the queen of opulence, is cutting back. When asked about her scaled back show for fashion week, the diva explained her reasoning for the cutbacks. “Now’s not the time to be running all over and flaunting the money that we don’t have. “Now’s not the time to have all these people come to the show who are coming because they’re your best friends — the people who need to be there are the buyers who need to see the clothes, the editors. It’s going to be small, intimate”. In short, she says her show will be a quick “have a drink, thank you, I salute you, but OK, now we have to go home” kind of affair. Kimora budget-conscious? I guess next pigs will fly.

Fashion Week Woes

Fashion Week kicked off Friday but, don't expect to see your favorite designers in the tents. Citing economic reasons, many designers have pulled out of New York Fashion Week. If you're a big fan of uber designers Vera Wang and Carmen Marc Valvo, maybe try to catch them at the next show. DKNY is out and Betsy Johnson, a staple at the event, has pulled out as well. The cart wheeling designer will just be having a small private party to display her new designs. Even though may designers cite the economy as the reason for the their absence, I wonder if they'll do anything to make their products more affordable?

Sophia Bush slipped into a jewel toned Reem Acra dress for the designers show.

Lucy Liu shows her support for Max Azria attending the Herve Leger fashion show. Max Azria of BCBG fame designs the Herve Leger brand.

Forever fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker shows her support for young designer Alexander Wang. Young designers are expected to fare better in this economy. Their lines will be more affordable than the more established fashion houses making them more attractive to buyers. Good luck Alex!

Fashion Week kicked off today and fashionistas are pouring into NYC for the shows. Even after the talk of several designers pulling out of fashion week and scaling back their show, the tents at Bryant Park are beginning to buzz. It will be interesting to see how the recession shapes the fashions that hit the runway. More affordable price points? Here's hoping.
