Klum's Kloset

Everybody act surprised now! After six seasons of helping hopeful designers realize their dreams on Project Runway Heidi Klum has been inspired to sit in the designers seat. The supermodel has joined forces with Modern Vintage and Majestic Mills co-founders Rick and Brian Cytrynbaum to create a lifestyle collection. We can expect that collection to include footwear, dresses, swimwear and activewear. This won't be her first time trying her hand as designer though. She has designed shoes and jewelry for awhile now. This is definitely a logical next step. The line is reported to be taking a page out of Klum's closet and going in the direction of feminine style with a rock and roll edge. Her 48-style shoe collection will be the first to hit stores in February 2010 and will include everything from stilettos to tall boots. The supermodel/supermom will also be adding a maternity line to her massive empire launching in February as well. Such a natural fit, right?!

Lindsay's Parisian Debut

While Rihanna is taking Europe by storm another starlet was looking for the spotlight. Lindsay Lohan made her debut at Paris' Fashion Week. So what exactly does she do for the fashion house? I'm glad you asked. She signed on this summer as the artistic advisor. She and co-designer Estrella Archs pulled together a show that didn't exactly leave all the critics raving. The Los Angeles Times went as far as calling the showing "a hot mess". Others took the gentler, kinder approach and even called it a "homerun". It was her first collection for Ungaro and she's compared the experience to something out of a fairytale. Let's hope this fairytale has a happy ending for the actress-designer.

Designer Cruisin'

There's a new stitcher entering the fashion arena. It should be no surprise that Katie Holmes wants a piece of the fashion pie. Our first clue may have been her sudden friendship with fashion icon Victoria Beckham. I mean, you can't be friends with VB and not be in the know fashionably speaking. The other clues dropped were when Katie first collaborated with her stylist to design a gown for the premiere of Tom's Tropic Thunder. She apparently liked it so much she did it again and created a satin jumpsuit for her own debut on Broadway. Finally, a rep for Katie has confirmed that Mrs. Cruise is indeed moonlighting as a designer with the help of her stylist. Word is, her line will be available in the fall and sold exclusively at Maxfield in L.A. The collection will include women's and children's clothes. Hmmm... looking forward to this creation.

Rebel Richie

Nobody is more in awe than I am about the transformation of Nicole Richie. Okay, maybe a few people are. You know, those that actually know her and all. That being said, she's turning into quite the entrepreneur. Soon you'll be able to steal her style from head to toe - accessory-wise, that is. Since her line of headbands and jewelry proved successful, the celeb is at it again. This time she inked a deal to design footwear. Her partners in this venture also produce Modern Vintage shoes and Earnest Sewn jeans. This will prove to be an interesting collaboration. She will add a line of about 20 shoe styles to her House of Harlow 1960 label. Expect to see the new stuff in sprint of 2010. In addition, she'll be designing bags, belts and other small accessories. Out of the Closet... for Charity

Since Gweneth started her lifestyle website GOOP, she's been sharing more of herself. Well now she's sharing even more and dipping into her designer-filled closet for charity. In the spirit of a little spring cleaning she's put items from her closet on ebay to raise funds for the Robin Hood Foundation. Her closet is giving up some pretty fab items. Look for Jimmy Choo and Valentino bags and Roger Vivier sandals. Sound like things you wouldn't mind having in your wardrobe? Well, head on over to ebay for the goods.

Decadent Diet

At New York’s fashion week Isaac Mizrahi debuted the Fall 2009 collection he designed for Liz Claiborne. The showing was held at his Manhattan studio. He’s been named the creative director of the company. Check out their site for his twist on things over at Liz Claiborne. I, for one, like what I see. During fashion week, he did double duty, displaying the Liz Claiborne collection but also displaying his newest collection. Isaac got his line’s inspiration from Africa and the show was held at the New York Public Library’s Astor Hall. I saw a wedding done there, that place is majestic! Anywho, how does one get through the week with two very different collection hitting the runway? Apparently, there was a lot of chocolate involved! It seems the uber- designer had been snacking on Champagne Truffles and chocolate almond bark. Anybody else craving chocolate now?

Glamour Girl Katie

Glamour magazine is celebrating it's 70th anniversary with Katie Holmes on the cover. The actress talks about her marriage, her career and being a mom. No big shocker, right? Well, then she talks a little bit about starting a clothing line. She told the mag, "My friend Jeanne Yang and I have been working together. She’s got twin girls about six years old, and we both grew up with mothers who sewed. We started about a year ago, sketching different things, trying to find comfortable clothing for our daughters that is also pretty and cute. We just started, and we’ve played around with doing things for women as well." That's right, add one more celeb line to the growing list. Mrs. Cruise will be sending her wares down the pike any minute now. After forming a friendship with Posh Spice, we knew this was coming, right?

Just Fine... Fashion

From perfumes to sneakers there seems to nothing outside the realm of the reach of celebrity. We may soon be adding Mary J. Blige to the mix of celebrity fronted clothing lines. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the reigning Queen of Hip-Hop Soul recently confessed that designing was definitely a dream of hers. I’m not surprised to by this revelation in the least. Ms. Blige has long been a front-row fixture at fashion week. The truth is she’s been a huge fashion influence on the urban set for over a decade now. She tells WWD that she wants to start off gradually with casual clothes. This venture should prove to be very interesting.

Musically Fashionable

From boy-bander to solo star to fashion mover and shaker, Justin Timberlake is doing big things. He and childhood friend Trace Ayala started their line William Rast a few years ago and this week they debuts at New York Fashion Week. That's huge! Timberlake says, "this season we're inspired by Barack Obama. I am inspired where we can go with the nation. That's why we picked the theme of New America for the show."

Jessica's Expanding Empire

Teen star, pop singer, newlywed, actress, country singer…. All of these describe Jessica Simpson. So too, does fashion maven. The singer has had a self- titled line for a while now. With clothing and accessories being the bread and butter. Now, after re-launching a jewelry line and addling lingerie and dresses this spring, Jessica is adding luggage to her fashion empire. You read right, luggage. The line will be ready for fall 2009. While she stays in the news for her "alleged" expanding figure it's really her business that's continues to spread! The line will be produced by Olivet and hit stores under the Jessica Simpson Collection this fall. Jessica has already proved her fashion designer status with her popular shoe and accessories line, so why not keep adding?

All about the Wu...

Up and coming designer Jason Wu got his big break when first lady Michelle Obama chose his creation as her inaugural gown. While most of us were praising his skills, others were shaming the designer for his use of fur. In preparation for his latest collection he talked about it representing luxury and using lots of fur. That got some people, namely Perez Hilton all on the boycott wagon. Bowing to the pressure, Jason Wu has decided to put any and all projects that include fur on hold. Here's his statement on the matter:

"As a result of increased interest and demand from our global retailers, we've decided to put our fur license on hold and concentrate on our growing ready-to-wear business," Wu said.

Fit for a Prez

President-elect Barack Obama ha selected the designer to create his suit for inauguration. The only problem is it isn't any of the designers that submitted designs. Instead he selected the Chicago operation of Hart Schaffner Marx. That sound you hear, is the collective gasp of the world's top designers. He's apparently worked with Marx before and decided to go with the familiar. Dag - I was holding out for the Sean Jean creation.

Sketches Fit for a Prez

While everybody is clamoring to dress the soon-to-be first lady, there is no shortage of people trying to get their duds on the president-elect. I got my hands on some of the sketches that were sent his way.

Reem Acra went all out and sent sketches for the whole Obama family. I must say, there are all uber-fabulous. I even like Michelle's hairstyle! The girls dresses are a little buttoned up, but they are all chic.
No surprise, Mr. Vote or Die, Diddy submitted designs from his Sean John fashion house. The tux is classic and it definitely has that Sean John swagger!
Rag & Bone took it old school with the tux with tails. It's a very classic, old Hollywood look.

Nautica kept their designs classic. Their suit features clean lines and single button coat. It's their vision for Obama's daytime look.
It's no secret, I love Marc Jacobs! He didn't disappoint with is vision for the future commander in chief. It's a classic tux but, the lines are definitely updated to be more modern.
Kenneth Cole presented some definite swagger with his sketch. I love the scarf. That's a look Barack Obama could absolutely pull off without effort. Love it!
Salvatore Ferragamo has been around for what seems like forever but there is nothing dated about the tux they presented to Mr. Obama. They went for an update in the lapel to give the suit a fresh look.
Elle Tahari worked it out from the wide lapels to the wing tipped shoes.
DSquared put their unique spin on the tux for the president elect. They went old school with the tails but, that's about where the "old" school ended. The twins put their unique twist on the tails look with a jacket that seems a bit shorter and a suit that seems overall more detailed.
I'll end it with the classiness that is Brooks Brothers.... they always deliver and they didn't disappoint with this sophisticated tux. Love it. Do you have a favorite of the many submissions?

Muy Bueno, Miu Miu

Is it the bag? Is it the shoes? I think it's both. Miu Miu has unveiled its fall collection and fall is looking good! From the multi-hued suede bootie to the quilted shoulder bag, I'm in love. The booties have a sexy heel and suede strips of strappy-ness. They are the perfect bootie for fall and winter - I'd want to wear them everyday. The there's the bag. It reminds me of a Chanel style or Marc Jacobs bag because of the quilting. It's roomy for the many things we gals-on-the-go like to throw in our bags. Again, I have to say, fall is looking GOOD!
